His father served for 21 years in the U.S. Army.
He lived in many different places growing up.
He started weight training early on in his life for a way to make friends in a new town.
The turned to passion when Derek enlisted in the Marine Corps.
He served for 6 years as a 0331 Infantry Machine Gunner.
His last billet was squad leader, leading patrol in Afghanistan.
Throughout his military career Derek took advantage of every opportunity to learn how to train better and harder.
