As a kid and young adult, I was overweight.
I put my health last, I simply did not understand how to be healthy.
I put all of my effort into my career and my family, always pushing my self-care to the side.
I worked 10 years as a mental health nurse in a prison, it was intense, the environment was stressful and traumatizing.
It didn't nurture optimal health and I didn't feel good about my work, but I stuck it out reassuring myself that it was the stable and the responsible thing to do.
I think the culture and what I was exposed to during those 10 years made a huge impact on my mental health.
