Services
Above the Rim Gym is a Murfreesboro-based basketball academy focused on providing boys ages 7-17 the opportunity to play the game of basketball throughout Murfreesboro and Middle Tennessee.
We operate out of our sponsor gym at a local high school as well as several community gyms and elementary schools that support all participants regardless of school attended.
Sportsmanship is a cornerstone of our mission in that your child will be expected to not only be committed to the game, but committed to the team and its success.
There's a basketball program in Rutherford County where every child walks away a winner, no matter what the scoreboard says.
George Gibson said he was 16 years old when a family helped send him to a basketball camp.
The act changed his life, and Gibson is now running camps of his own.
That idea of paying it forward led Gibson to open the Above the Rim Gym in 2006 in Murfreesboro.
Gibson says the gym is open for every kid from ages 7 to 17, and you don't have to be from Rutherford County to join.
A resident of Murfreesboro since 2005, Coach Gibson brings his experience to Above the Rim Gym.
Beginning at 13 years old, Coach Gibson went on to play at the AAAA high school level as a 3-year starter and served as Varsity Captain for two years at Little Rock High School.
Coach Gibson made All-State his senior year and was selected to play for the Arkansas High School All-Star teams.
For his efforts, he was awarded a full basketball scholarship to play at the University of Central Arkansas (U C A). Through his four years at the collegiate level, he played for the U C A Bears in two Conference Tournaments, advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City and was selected to compete as a College All-Star.
I am writing to recommend Above the Rim Gym Basketball with much pleasure.
This organization laid the groundwork by teaching basketball fundamentals while uplifting the children with encouragement.
The impact on the community and my child's self-esteem has been priceless.
When we signed my 8 year old daughter up for basketball, I immediately observed that this organization was committed to supporting our children through positive reinforcement.
During my daughter's experience, her game improved tremendously and her confidence increased immensely, which is top priority.
BELOW: FALL 2013 - Old Fort - Blumfield Mini Golf Opening (L to R: Dillon, Trenton, Coach Gibson, Markus and Chris).
The course is new venture for Above the Rim Gym in addition to basketball in 2014.
On the field prior to gametime, Coach Gibson and his son met ESPN personality, Stuart Scott.
Great job to all of our student-athletes and many thanks to our parents for their support and the opportunity to coach their children.
Continue to play Above the Rim!
Lots to see guys!
Many thanks to those athletes who came to share their ministry with the youth in our community!
